Baked Ziti (2)
1 - 16 oz. pkg. ziti pasta
1 - 26.5 oz. jar prepared spaghetti sauce (such as Ragu)
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. basil
6 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese
6 oz. sliced provolone cheese
1 1/2 cups sour cream
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
grated parmesan cheese
Brown ground beef and onion over medium heat. Add spaghetti sauce,
basil and oregano. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile cook ziti according to package directions. Drain.
In a buttered 9x13 baking dish layer 1/2 of the ziti, provolone cheese, sour cream,
1/2 spaghetti meat sauce, remaining 1/2 of the ziti, mozzarella cheese and
remaining sauce. Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top.
This can be assembled ahead of time.
Bake in a preheated 350 oven for 30 minutes or until hot and cheese is melted.
Serves 8 very heartily.
NOTE: The recipe can be cut in half and baked it in an oval casserole dish for
the recommended 30 minutes, with great results. Also,
fat reduced cheeses
and sour cream with excellent results.
Bake Ziti Casserole
6 c. (16 oz.) Ziti, uncooked
3 c. (about 28-oz. jar) spaghetti sauce, divided
2 c. (16 oz.) ricotta or lowfat cottage cheese
2 c. (8 oz.) mozzarella cheese
1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. dried oregano leaves
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
1 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
Heat oven to 375°F. Cook pasta according to package directions; drain.
Stir together hot pasta, 1-1/2 cups spaghetti sauce, ricotta cheese,
mozzarella cheese, parsley, egg, salt, oregano, garlic powder and pepper
in large bowl. Pour 1/2 cup spaghetti sauce in bottom of 3-quart casserole;
spread pasta mixture evenly over sauce. Top with remaining 1-1/2 cups
sauce; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Cover; bake 30 to 35 minutes or until hot and bubbly. 8 servings.
