French Green Bean Casserole



    1 large onion, thinly sliced
    3/4 stick margarine
    1 bag or 2 boxes frozen French cut green beans
    1 can bean sprouts
    1 can water chestnuts
    1 can mushroom soup
    1 can French fried onion rings
    2 c. sharp, grated Cheddar cheese

    Sauté onion in margarine. Cook beans by directions.
    Drain beans, bean sprouts, water chestnuts; mix well with soup and onions. 
    Pour mixture into greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish and cover with grated cheese,
     then onion rings.  Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

    NOTE: This can be made a day ahead or frozen a week ahead,
    adding cheese and onion rings when ready to bake.
